Programs Offered Pre-GED Preparation classes focus on Mathematics and Writing Skills which are typically the most difficult subject areas for most adults. Class moves at a slower pace to help you succeed each step of the way. Weekly attendance is required. Homework is assigned and a textbook is provided. Test taking tips are reviewed. Computer Literacy and Keyboarding are also covered. Tutoring is also available. Classes are scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm for 16 weeks.
GED Preparation classes review all exam areas: Writing Skills, Science, Reading Comprehension, Social Studies and Mathematics. You'll learn tips on how to take the GED Test and how to use the assigned calculator. Weekly attendance is required. Homework is assigned and a textbook is provided. Tutoring is also available. Classes are scheduled Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00-6:00pm and 6:00-8:00 pm for 16 weeks.
Free tutoring is offered from 5:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday & Thursday and 5:00-6:00 pm, Monday & Wednesday in the Elizabeth Reed Large-Print Reading Room on the 1st Floor.
Where Are the Classes & Tutoring? Classes and tutoring are at the Westfield Athenaeum, 6 Elm Street in Westfield, MA.
Is There a Cost? Through the generosity of the City of Westfield CDBG, community-focused local businesses and charitable foundations, the cost to students is only $35 (text).
When Do Classes Begin? Classes are offered during Fall (September-December) and Spring (January-May). An "Information Night" is scheduled prior to classes beginning which includes learning about the program, completing an Intake Form, and having your questions answered.

What do I have to do to be successful in this program? You must do three things to be successful in achieving your high school credential. You must attend all classes, complete your homework and attend tutoring if you are having difficulty with classsroom material. If you work hard, you will be successful.
