Programs Offered
Pre-HiSET Preparation classes begin with elementary level content and moves at a slower pace to help you succeed each step of the way. Weekly attendance is required. Homework is assigned and a textbook is provided. Test taking tips are reviewed. Classes are scheduled Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm for 30 weeks. Tutoring is also available from 5:00-6:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday.

Two levels of HiSET Preparation classes are offered that cover all subject content. HiSET Level-1 classes begin with material normally introduced at the Middle School grade level. HiSET Level-2 classes focus on material normally covered at the High School grade level. You'll learn tips on how to take the HiSET Test and how to use the assigned calculator. Weekly attendance is required. Homework is assigned and a textbook is provided. Tutoring is also available. HiSET Level-2 classes are scheduled Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00-6:00pm and HiSET Level-1 classes are scheduled Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm, both for 30 weeks. For students in both HiSET Preparation courses, a required Computer Literacy & Career Development course is scheduled on Wednesdays from 6-8pm.

Computer Literacy & Career Development program includes instruction in Microsoft Office and Word, use of the mouse, improving word processing speed and accuracy, resume development and creating of a cover letter to apply for employment positions. Also reviewed will be electronic job search and applying on-line. This course meets at the Clark Building on the campus of Western Mass. Hospital, 128 East Mountain Road, Westfield.

Classes and tutoring are at the Westfield Athenaeum, 6 Elm Street in Westfield, MA.

Is There a Cost?
Through the generosity of the City of Westfield CDBG, community-focused local businesses and charitable foundations, the cost of the classes are free. There is a small, nominal text fee however.

When Do Classes Begin?
Classes are offered during Fall (September-December) and Spring (January-May).  An "Information Night" is scheduled prior to classes beginning which includes learning about the program, completing an Intake Form, and having your questions answered.

What do I have to do to be successful in this program?
You must do three things to be successful in achieving your high school credential. You must attend all classes, complete your homework and attend tutoring if you are having difficulty with classroom material. If you work hard, you will be successful!
